| Kankakee Gets Its Groove Back - Thursday, 22 June 2006 |

When Provena Health abandoned its headquarters in the seven-story Executive Centre in downtown in 2002, it was the community’s idea to convert it into a library. Less than a year after the renovations started, the Kankakee Public Library moved from a dilapidated 105-year-old building into a sophisticated showplace that extended over three floors.
This new public library had become the cultural hub of the city, crucial to its downtown revitalization. A new bank and a satellite university campus have already been completed and a park with a water fountain is on the way. (Mr. Letterman’s gazebos are still in use.) “It all started with the library,” Mayor Green said. “I can’t tell you how proud that makes our community.”

| Homestar Opens Branch in Clock Tower Centre - Monday, 13 March 2006 |

HomeStar Bank is the latest financial institution to invest in downtown Kankakee.
As a sign on the historic Clock Tower Centre shows, the bank opened a branch at South Schuyler Avenue and Merchant Street.
Joseph Franco, the building’s developer, said HomeStar’s decision was likely to have been spurred by the recent announcement that Governors State University would be holding classes at that location.
HomeStar Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Patrick Martin said that based on customer surveys, the bank had been looking for a downtown location for about two years. Had the Clock Tower project not come to fruition, HomeStar still would have found a place in Kankakee, he said.
